Yeah. uitting was an option for me too. But because I love music and I'm starting to love my instrument, I held back. I was thinking that if I quit, I would join AVA or Malay Dance or Environment Club...But something held me back. The thought of being labeled a quitter was not for me. But somehow, Mr Ng made me feel like one. And HELLO! Please zap yourself back into reality! ACADEMIC is MUCH MORE important. "Do you think playing instruments will get you to University?". That was what my brother first told me when I joined band. He said, "One day, you expect to ask your colleagues to join you to play instruments?". I went against him at first. But now I don't know what to think. How could A MATHS scrape your time? He can be racist if he wants to, I can be one too. I mean, he's been picking on most of the malay players. We observe you know. Someone told me to treat Mr Ng the way he treats me. And when he asks why I was rude, I should say he taught me. I told the someone that the suggestion my even worsen the situation, making him hate me more. Then I replied I RESPECT my elders. But then, I'm losing respect for him. In fact. I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OLD MEN WHO CURSE AND SWEAR. THEY SHOULD BE ROLE MODELS. WE ARE NOT HIS FRIENDS THAT HE CALLS US STUPID AND ALL THAT. HE BELONGS TO A CATEGORY OF PROFESSIONALS CALLED TEACHERS. AND BY DOING WHAT HE IS DOING NOW, HE ISN'T BEING PROFESSIONAL. IF HE DOESN'T RESPECT US, I'LL REFUSE TO RESPECT HIM. i SUPER agree with Azryl. He always wants to pick a fight with me. Like HELLO. I'm stating the facts. Its not easy being given the chance to mingle around in a kind of convention which the school paid for. i even got interviewed by the straits times! sheeeesh. Maybe he's like doing reverse psychology or what. bt come on la. since when walking behind someone is disrespectful? u walk in front more disrespectful lorh. nothing we do is right to him. when i play loud he ask me play softer. when i play soft he think i not playing. wth? THIS IS WRONG! honestly, quitting was an option. cos i dont like to be pushed around when i KNOW i'm right. but NO. for school, east springians, and the band. i'll stay even if i get bruised or battered by that fat man. sorry to say this. i know i'm being rude and all. but i can be even rude-r. if i didnt follow my heart i could have just stood up during practice and say whatever i say in here to him. bt most probably he'll say he doesnt care. REALITY CHECK. if he knows we suck, why did he take up the offer anyways? if he knew that getting us to play really well was beyond his reach, and knowing for the fact he has an anger management problem, why in the world did he offer to conduct us? HUH? HUH? i came in band cos i enjoy music. music is my LIFE. bt now that he always comes in and screams his HEAD OFF all the time. band practices hv become such a chore for me. its like i dont feel like oing it willingly anymore. its like i'm being forced to. i dont agree to the fact that he keeps shunning azryl, nabilah & the trombone section. and i dont agree when he said AMATHS can just scrape off your time. EXCUSE ME! academics are the top priority okay! and so is religion (cos my jr had a religious exam to sit for on friday) so much so i kinda had enough with his attitude. bt because i dont wanna be a quitter & my undying love for music and my instrument, i'll stay. whatever it takes to show that fat dude that we can make it. if he reads this and says "EAST SPRING AH? CANNOT MAKE IT ONE LAH. SURE GET COP." well, some way or another, we'll get an award. dont believe? WAIT AND SEE. I SWEAR WE CAN BRING HOME A BRONZE OR EVEN BETTER, A SILVER. OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE. LOVES. Tiara Aiyoooo. Why does Mr Ng has to be like that. He says that I shake when I play...BUT. It's due to HIM that I shake. I mean if he keeps shouting and screaming, it lowers my self esteem and confidence, not brings it up. I would get stressed, afraid I won't meet to his standards and end up playing badly. Then he would go shouting and scolding again and I try to meet standards, and it will all go back to square one. See what I mean? I want Mr Tan baaaack. T.T And why is he so unreasonable? Didn't he mention that he needs a valid reason if we are absent? Well yeah. TIARA had one VERY GOOD EXTREMELY VALID reason. She was to go for a convention at RGS and could not attend the exchange. The school had paid $210 for her to go there and plus, she was representing the school. I mean if I was her, I would have gone to the convention too as the school forked out a large sum of money. And Tiara told me that Mr Ng didn't care what reason she had to give. I mean GRRRRR. WHY IS HE SO UNREASONABLE? Does he looove to pick on us and see us feeling down and moody? Azryl. Here's a decision made.. Everyone can log onto the blog to post an entry, if not, too many people won't be able to comment or what-so-ever.. But only certain people are allowed to make changes to blog templates etc etc.. to be fair to the students who created this blog.. --in-- Did Miss Tan mentioned about a bigger tagboard?? Well im suggesting someone editing this to try this: http://chatter.flooble.com/ I think its wider and easier to read the msgs posted Soooo.....check it out... mai [clarinet sec] --out-- Friday, November 17, 2006
Hi all, 1st of all, I want to really give my appreciation for the efforts that you guys did for the website. I would say it's pretty well done, But could we have a slightly bigger tagboard where we could see more messages? It is a start, nevertheless. As requested, I have added in (and hopefully have not missed out) all the band members names in the "The Players" section. Whether or not they own a blog. If they happen to have, then we'll just add in the links. =) I did talk to some of you guys today after the band practice and apparently, one of our biggest concern is really the committment and attitude of the band members. Seriously, think about it. Some people claim that in order to win, or do better, we need better instructors, better instruments and blah blah blah. Instructor wise, if under Mr Ng, Geylang Methodist could do this well, then something is wrong somewhere else. And there are no lousy instruments. (ok, maybe sometimes a little koyak [don't quote me!]) It really boils down to the players in the band, i.e. all of you. So I'm making use (and good use) of this blog to voice out some concerns that I might have missed out during band practice. Mr Ng may have some faults but nobody is perfect. He's really trying hard to push the whole band. It's just a matter of whether how many of you budge. (Budge in terms of bringing instruments back to practice, taking the initiative to clear up doubts and to even learn something during the band practice.) If he is biased against students, it would be really really obvious. I once had a teacher who was biased against me and my classmates could tell. So whatever he said, be it in anger or others, just take it. In time to come, when other people blast things at you, you would have "undergone the training" and would be able to take these criticisms more positively. So yup. If one person's attitude change, there would be a ripple effect. The whole entire band will change. (and because of this change, the attitude/perspective of others towards the band changes as well, meaning, we would be able to get more support. Also, it is pretty much the very formula to win award(s)...) Oh, some updates for absentees. (Section leaders, if you are reading this, PASS DOWN THE MSG. If you know your section leaders don't come to the blog, bug your section leaders for any information.) 1) Tue (21/11) extra unofficial practice, initiated by Trumpet section, trombone section and Glenn if I remember correctly. If the rest want to join in, you're most welcome. The storeroom will be open at 1pm. If the music room is used by the choir, you are welcomed to blast your instruments anywhere else within the school compounds. (except the General Office and outside the staff room) =p 2) Wed (22/11) Band Exchange. All to report at 7.30am in full school uniform. We will set off for Canberra Secondary at 8am. It is expected to end at 12.30pm. After which, when we come back to school, there will be 1h practice/debrief. 3) Fri (24/11) Practice from 9-12. That would be about all :) Love, Miss Maybelline Tan Wednesday, November 15, 2006
hey everyone...just thought i shud post...more like nothing to do...as sum of u noe, fuad and i came back from the nco camp a few daes ago. if u wanna get a gist of the whole thing, go to youtube...if u r lucky mayb u can spot fuad n me! honestly, i'm glad to have commited bandmates... most of you are... the school may not support band but i believe we can get sumthing for SYF. we've been working hard rite? we r scolded by mr ng numerous times but we're still standing... let's show the school wat we're made of! if we believe, we'll achieve... i have a few suggestions to improve the band but i'll need ur approval...give comments:
anyway, i think i've been talking too much... but i have one last info to tell u all... for our syf set piece, there'll be 2 movements that we can choose from...if my inside sources are correct, the two scores are titled Safari and Sunrise and we have to choose one to play... and it'll be out on 27 nov... we're gonna have to work seriously hard and be xtra tolerant with our very temperamental conductor, mr. ng. i have faith in the band...mark my words...we WILL get a silver...watever it takes aint no mountain high enuf, aint no valley low... peace out...hafidzah Sunday, November 12, 2006
YAY!! Third to post!! Eh, everyone must say thanks to Azryl ok? Who knew he was working on this? Whoever wants the username and/or password may approach Azryl or even me. Yesterday, Fuad and Hafidzah came back from the NCO camp. When asked, Fuad replied that the camp was great. Hmm.... wonder how tanned they got. Bet they had to go through alot of rigorous training which required dedication and a whole bunch of perseverance. People who are interested may ask Fuad or Hafidzah. Anyone eyeing to be a band/drum major might know a thing or two about what they will have to undergo. I know that alot of people love to hate Mr Ng. Well, he might be plucking our very veins and annoying us to death, but he means well. Anyone who feels really frustrated can just rant here, instead of at school. This is Tirmidzi a.k.a Mii, signing out. Saturday, November 11, 2006
